Trust and safety
Trust is the product.
You're inviting someone into your child's week. Here is exactly what we check, what we show you, and what happens when something isn't right — no vague badges, no fine print.
What we verify before anyone goes live.
Identity verification
Government-issued ID checked against the person applying. No anonymous profiles, ever.
Qualification checks
Degrees, coaching certificates and teaching qualifications confirmed with the issuing institution where possible.
Reference checks
At least two references contacted and recorded before a provider can go live.
Criminal-record & safeguarding screening
Child-facing roles require criminal-record screening and child-safeguarding checks appropriate under South African law.
Time-limited certifications
First aid and similar certifications carry expiry dates. Expired means the badge comes off — automatically.
Nothing is implied
Profiles show each completed check by name. If something isn't listed as verified, it hasn't been verified.
Checks are performed by Leer's trust team and recorded per provider. Where third-party screening partners are used in future, the profile will name the issuer of each check — we never claim a verification that hasn't happened.
How the platform protects your family.
Children's information is minimised
We collect only what a provider genuinely needs for a session — a first name, a grade, relevant notes you choose to share. Children's records carry the strictest access controls in our system, in line with POPIA's protections for children's personal information.
Everything stays on the record
Messaging, booking changes, payments and session reports happen in-app. Your home address is only shared with a provider once a booking is confirmed.
Reporting with teeth
Every report opens a tracked incident with a severity level and a named owner on our trust team. Serious safeguarding concerns suspend a profile first and investigate second.
Something didn't feel right?
Report it from any booking or profile, or write to support@leer-app.co.za. Urgent safeguarding concerns are treated as incidents, not tickets.
Read the team sheet before you book.
Every profile names each check, who issued it and when it expires — including the ones still outstanding.
