Useful answers

Find quick answers about the service areas, how providers join and what this public website can help you do.

What kinds of support does Leer cover?

The main areas are tutoring, sports coaching and childcare, including au pairs and babysitters. Each service hub explains the role, the questions worth asking and how to prepare.

A category page does not confirm that every subject, sport or care arrangement is available in your area. Check the details of the specific service you are considering.

Does reading a service page make a booking?

No. These pages help you understand the options and prepare useful questions. They do not reserve a provider, confirm a date or collect a payment.

Before making any arrangement, confirm the actual service, total price, duration and cancellation terms through the relevant provider or booking destination.

How do I choose between an au pair and a babysitter?

Start with the responsibilities and routine, not only the title. An au pair arrangement commonly involves recurring support, while babysitting commonly covers an agreed period of care. The actual tasks must be discussed in either case.

Our comparison uses the same practical questions for both roles, so you can describe the support you need more clearly.

Can I apply as a provider or register an organisation?

Individual providers join Leer only by invitation from an organisation on Leer, such as a school, sports academy or tutoring company. There is no public application. Read the provider page to see how an invitation works; accepting one does not guarantee approval or bookings.

Schools, pre-schools, sports academies, tutoring companies and childcare organisations operate on Leer with their own providers, families, locations — and a revenue share on every qualifying booking.

Where can I read about checks, policies or contact options?

No provider goes live without identity verification, reference checks and the screening appropriate to their role. Profiles name each check, who issued it and when it expires — including the ones still outstanding.

Pricing & payments

What does Leer cost families?

You pay the provider's listed price — R350/hr means R350/hr. Leer's platform fee is charged to the provider side of the transaction, and every booking shows a full price breakdown before you pay.

How do payments work?

Payments are processed securely in ZAR through Paystack. Money is only released to the provider after the session, and your card details never touch Leer's servers.

What are packages?

Some providers offer prepaid bundles (for example, 10 tutoring sessions at a discount). Packages have a validity period and appear as credits on your bookings.

Bookings & cancellations

What happens if I cancel?

Each provider has a clear cancellation policy shown before you book — typically a full refund with 48 hours' notice and a partial refund with 24 hours' notice. If a provider cancels or doesn't show up, you're refunded in full.

What's the difference between instant and requested bookings?

Instant bookings confirm as soon as you pay. Requested bookings give the provider a window to accept first — you only pay once they've confirmed.

Can I set up recurring sessions?

Yes — weekly patterns like every Monday, or Monday plus Wednesday, with a fixed number of sessions or until a date you choose. You can pause or change future sessions without touching past records.

Privacy & your child's information

What information about my child does Leer share?

The minimum a provider needs: first name, age/grade and any notes you add for the session. Your street address is only shared once a booking is confirmed. Children's records have the strictest access controls in the platform, consistent with POPIA.

Can I delete our data?

Yes. You can request account and data deletion from your profile settings; financial records that must be retained by law are kept in a restricted archive for the statutory period only.

Who sees our messages?

You and the provider. Organisation administrators don't get message access; Leer's trust team may review messages only as part of a reported incident, and every such access is audit-logged.

Policies & POPIA

Leer maintains versioned privacy, terms and child-data policies; your acceptance of each version is recorded. Final wording requires review by South African counsel before production launch.
